Apply - ACLS/Burkhardt Residential Fellowships

Overview

Thanks to the generous assistance of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the American Council of Learned Societies offers a small number of fellowships for recently tenured scholars engaged in long-term projects in the humanities and related social sciences.

The ACLS/Frederick Burkhardt Residential Fellowships support a nine-month residency at any one of twelve national research centers and libraries, including the American Academy in Rome. ACLS will award up to ten Burkhardt Fellowships for residency at these centers in the 2019–20 competition year. Each fellowship carries a stipend of $95,000, plus funds for research costs and related scholarly activities of up to $7,500 and for relocation up to $3,000.

The deadline for 2020 fellowships was September 25, 2019. Notifications were sent via email in late February 2020.
