From the Ground Up: The Making of the Norton–Van Buren Archaeological Study Collection is an exhibition organized by students from the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies and the Fondazione IES Abroad Rome Center under the supervision of the collection’s curator, Valentina Follo.

The archaeological collection encompasses several significant donations made early in the previous century to provide Academy Fellows with tangible study material from the ancient world. The exhibition focuses on the collection’s early history by highlighting selected contributions from its principal donors. The purpose of the show is twofold: university students from outside the Academy have gained not only access to an important and engaging source of learning materials, but also a valuable museum experience. Furthering the Academy’s outreach efforts, the exhibition has reinstated the collection’s original function as a teaching tool for a wide variety of students.

The exhibition will be open on December 13 and 14 from 4pm to 7pm.
