Derrell Acon – Da Dove Viene “La Black Art”

Derrell Acon - Da Dove Viene "La Black Art"

In “Da Dove Viene La Black Art,” Derrell Acon responds to the extravagant claim that true Black Art cannot exist in America. In addition to brief reference to his thesis, Whence Comes Black Art? The Construction and Application of “Black Motivation,” Acon uses live performance to exemplify his research. The presentation includes song, literature excerpts, and poetry by a variety of African American artists. Eric Nathan (American Academy in Rome) will perform trumpet in a live jazz improvisation along with Javier Moreno, bass (Spanish Academy), along to texts (“Why is we Americans” and “Black Art”) by Amiri Baraka recited by Derrell Acon. The lecture will be held in English.

Derrell Acon is a 2013–14 United States of America Fulbright grantee in music performance and research. He is currently based in Milan.
