I seek to expand the possible vocabularies of assemblage sculpture through studying the city’s dense network of Marian shrines, The Madonnelle, for their rich display of formal solutions over a fixed motif, and as open air liminal spaces whose boundaries appear and disappear in tandem with each viewer’s entrance and exit from the temporary psychic states they encourage. I will record these unique and dense syntactical repositories of devotion through photographs, videos, collage and sound recordings and continue to produce small paper mache objects and collect found items for use in larger vignettes. These materials will contribute to my current project in which I am creating a full -street scene, populated by objects, facades and actors. I am eager to appreciate the Madonnelle as I appreciated New York City's park benches as latent but potent contributions to a cities psychogeography as designated urban spaces to privately and publicly unburden.
