Held in conjunction with the opening of Patricia Cronin’s exhibition Le Macchine, Gli Dei e I Fantasmi (Machines, Gods and Ghosts), curated by Ludovico Pratesi, at the Musei Capitolini Centrale Montemartini. The panel will offer a preview of the exhibition featuring Cronin’s Ghosts, atmospheric watercolors printed on large-scale translucent silk panels. They were created specifically to interact with the evocative interior of the Centrale Montemartini, a former power station that now houses classical sculpture from the collection of the Capitoline Museums. Related to Cronin’s catalogue raisonné project reconstituting the life and career of the American neoclassical sculptor Harriet Hosmer, the Ghosts explore the complex afterlife of works of art and the challenges implicit in reclaiming and rereading the past.

Cronin was a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome in 2006–7.

The event will be held in English and Italian. The exhibition at the Musei Capitolini Centrale Montemartini will be open from October 9 to November 20, 2013.
