On October 24 the archaeologist and historian Fikret Yegül (1998 Resident) will lecture at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts on the subject of “Baths, Beds, and Beyond: A New Form of Bathing in the Roman World.”

Tomorrow the writer André Aciman (2014 Resident) converses with David Damrosch about about his latest book, Roman Year: A Memoir, at the Harvard Book Store. Aciman’s story “captures the period of his adolescence that began when he and his family first set foot in Rome, after being expelled from Egypt.”

Tommorow William Grosvenor Neil (1983 Fellow) premieres Voci dall’ombra, written for soprano and piano, at Sala Baldini in Rome. The piece was inspired by six madrigals from the Renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa’s fifth book of madrigals.

Tomorrow Reko Rennie (2023 Affiliated Fellow) opens his Rekospective at the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia. Work by this Kamilaroi artist explores culture, politics, and identity from a contemporary First Nations perspective.

Lincoln Center Theater in New York is presenting performances of McNeal, a new play by Ayad Akhtar (2018 Resident) starring Robert Downey Jr. and Brittany Bellizeare. The show runs through November 24.

Tomorrow the global collective Feminist Spatial Practices—which includes Bryony Roberts (2016 Fellow)—launches an interactive online platform celebrating diverse ways people practice feminism in the built environment at e-flux in Brooklyn.

Kinderszenen is a new concerto for piano, electronics, and orchestra, written by Marco Momi (2023 Italian Fellow). The composition, commissioned for the 2024 Venice Biennale, will be performed on October 6.

The preeminent American landscape architect Walter Hood (1997 Fellow) is the twenty-sixth recipient of the National Building Museum’s annual Vincent Scully Prize, which recognizes excellence in practice, scholarship, or criticism in architecture, historic preservation, and urban design.

Last month the National Academy of Design elected new members for 2024. Tony Cokes (2023 Fellow) has won a 2024 fellowship from the MacArthur Foundation. The artist was recognized for the “unexpected juxtapositions in his works [that] highlight the ways in which dominant narratives emerging from our oversaturated media environments reinforce existing power structures.”

On October 4 Alice Visentin (2023 Italian Fellow) will open a solo exhibition, Everyday Mystery, at Gió Marconi in Milan. Her paintings feature manifesting and dissolving shapes as well as a “relinquishing of control.”

A conversation between Glenn Ligon (2019 Resident), Kellie Jones, and Julie Mehretu (2020 Resident) on October 4 at Cooper Union in New York launches the publication of Glenn Ligon: Distinguishing Piss from Rain; Writings and Interviews. The evening also features a reading by Helga Davis.

Sitting Still, a documentary film dedicated to the landscape architect Laurie Olin (1974 Fellow), gets its world premiere on September 27 at the Architecture and Design Film Festival in New York. A second screening takes place the next day.

Today Carmen Belmonte (2019 Italian Fellow) is one of four speakers at John Cabot University in Rome who will gather to discuss her latest edited book, A Difficult Heritage: The Afterlives of Fascist-era Art and Architecture.
