Scharoun Ensemble Berlin

The renowned Scharoun Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra will offer three concerts to the AAR community and the city of Rome as the culminating events of a week-long residency. This will be the Scharoun Ensemble’s sixth annual visit and concert series at the American Academy. Featured will be music by David Lang (1991 Fellow), Ludwig van Beethoven (the E flat-major Septet op. 20), Robert Schumann (Fantasiestucke op. 73), Ernst von Dohnanyi (the C-major Sextet op. 37), and Johannes Brahms (Variations on a Theme by Schumann op. 9, arranged by D. Glanert). Also featured will be work by Eric Nathan, the Frederic A. Juilliard/Walter Damrosch Rome Prize Fellow in Musical Composition (including Nathan’s Multitude, Solitude and a world premiere of his Octet), and Dan Visconti, the Samuel Barber Rome Prize Fellow in Musical Composition (including Visconti’s Ramshackle Songs and Young Sycamore).
