The Academy is back! We are beyond grateful to reopen for yet another season and welcome our new class of Rome Prize winners and Italian Fellows to the Eternal City. Announced in July, AAR awarded fellowships to twenty-two American and two Italian artists and scholars. We invite you to watch a short video in which some of the prize winners describe their plans while in Rome. We will also post shoptalks of Fellows presenting their work throughout the winter and spring.

The ongoing pandemic has forced all institutions to rethink how they reopen, and the Academy is no different. We will operate with a much smaller community, to allow for proper social distancing. For the time being, the Academy will remain closed to the general public, and all programs will happen virtually. The Library and Archives are open and accepting nonresident researchers by appointment. For the safety of our readers and the AAR community, access is limited to one day per week per reader.
