In Rome, Jessica Fisher plans to work on two books. The first, Defect, explores the ways political realities map themselves on to individual lives. The second, Daywork, draws on aspects of fresco painting—particularly the giornata—in order to narrate a site- and time-specific compositional practice that nevertheless endures, a palimpsestic art often defaced or whitewashed that now asks to be recovered.
