This international conference will analyze and debate the forces, peoples, and ideas that enabled Rome’s senators to use the Senate as a body that directed Rome’s political, social, and religious evolution while channeling resources and energies that enabled Rome to respond to crises.

Fellow Shoptalks are a forum in which Rome Prize winners, Italian Fellows, and Affiliated Fellows present their work to each other and to the public. Shoptalks are occasionally streamed live on Zoom and posted to the Academy’s YouTube channel.

The American Academy in Rome is participating in Giornate FAI d’Autunno, a way to get to discover rich Italian cultural heritage.

AAR will screen Meanwhile (2024), a film that combines artists’ expressions with historical and observational footage as a mediation about identity, race, racism, and resistance.
