Scharoun Ensemble Berlin

The renowned Scharoun Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra will offer three concerts to the AAR community and the city of Rome as the culminating events of a weeklong residency. This will be the Scharoun Ensemble's fifth annual visit and concert series at the American Academy. Featured will be music by Hans Werner Henze, Johannes Brahms (the b-minor Quartet opus 115), Franz Schubert (the Octet D. 803, opus 166), Daniel Schnyder, Gyorgy Kurtag, and Antonin Dvorak (the American Suite in A Major, opus 98, arranged by Andreas N. Tarkmann). Also featured will be work by Elliott Carter Rome Prize Fellow Jesse Jones (including Jones' arrangement of Bach's English Suite Number Two for clarinet, horn, bassoon and string quintet) and Luciano Berio Rome Prize Fellow Anthony Cheung (who will conduct his own Ebbing Flow, for clarinet, violin, cello and piano). On May 17, 2013, the Scharoun Ensemble will also perform work by Cheung and Jones in Berlin.
