Naming Opportunities
We are pleased to invite you to support the American Academy in Rome and leave a lasting legacy by naming one of our historic spaces or pieces of furniture.
Situated on the Janiculum, the highest hill within the walls of Rome, AAR occupies eleven acres and eighteen buildings. The 130-room main building, designed by McKim, Mead & White, contains residential accommodations, studios, and studies for the Academy’s Fellows, Residents, Affiliated Fellows, and Visiting Artists and Scholars. The building also houses the Academy’s Library, Photographic Archive, exhibition spaces, and administrative offices.
Naming begins at $5,000 and can be made in cash or securities, or with a pledge to be paid over time. We are delighted to speak with you about naming opportunities that resonate with you. Please contact Rachael Edmonston, Manager of Development, at r.edmonston [at] aarome.org (r[dot]edmonston[at]aarome[dot]org).
Arthur & Janet C. Ross Library
The Arthur & Janet C. Ross Library offers an opportunity to honor great teachers, mentors, colleagues, and friends through the naming of chairs, tables, carrels, alcoves, and stacks. Each dedicated piece serves as a testament to the importance of these senior artists and scholars, to their students, to their discipline and to the life of the Academy. These contributions support the library, enriching the work of the international community of scholars and artists who seek a measure of uninterrupted time in a comfortable, well-equipped atmosphere charged with the potential of unexpected discovery.
Studies
Each community member in the humanities is awarded a spacious study, which is appropriate for their needs for the duration of their time at AAR. These studies are spacious and complete with desks, chairs, and bookcases within steps of the world-class Arthur & Janet C. Ross Library. The studies provide room for our scholars to pursue their quest for knowledge and to invent the next chapter of their work. Each AAR study serves as the birthplace of transformational scholarly exploration for generations of scholars—past, present, and future.
Studios
For the Academy’s artists, studios are not just rooms to pursue creative work; rather they are the backdrop to a setting in Rome that has inspired generations for millennia. These studios are light-filled, airy spaces, with twenty-foot ceilings, that offer dedicated space to create the work that imagines the future. Each studio is equipped with the essentials: a work/drafting table, chairs, easels, desk, sofa bed, sink, and fiber wall boards for pinning up work. Studios provide space for our artists to unleash their creativity, enlivening the cultural landscape and showcasing the impact of artistic expression.
