Christopher Howard is communications manager for the American Academy in Rome.
On July 10, CBS Sunday Morning aired a five-minute story about the Academy’s essence, history, and present-day life. Rome correspondent Seth Doane spoke with three 2022 Fellows—scholar Elena Past, composer Igor Santos, and artist William Villalongo—about their Rome Prize projects and collaborations.
Two Academy leaders, Elizabeth Rodini and Marla Stone, added some perspective on what it means to come to and return from Rome, while Doane contextualizes AAR within the rise of national academies in the Eternal City. Enjoy also new drone footage of Academy buildings and gardens. “More remarkable than the place,” said Doane, “is the mix of people” that is the heart of life on the Janiculum.
