Winter Open Studios
Winter Open Studios showcases the work in progress of fall Rome Prize winners and Italian Fellows at the American Academy in Rome. Visitors will explore the McKim, Mead & White Building discovering music, artworks, installations, film screenings, and publications of the fall Fellows in design and textile design, literature, music composition, historic preservation, and visual arts.
Themes the artists engage with include: public space in the city and spaces of worship; natural and handmade patterns; prototypes and functional objects; bodily prints and collective memory; operas and acoustics; and mutant organisms and life-altering diseases. These topics extend and expand across the Academy’s main building.
The participating artists are: Fatma Bucak, Zachary Fabri, Katie Kitamura, Ajay Manthripragada, Dread Scott, Anthony Vine, David Weeks, and Elizabeth Whelan.
Winter Open Studios is made possible by the Adele Chatfield-Taylor Fund for the Arts. The program is also funded in part by a grant from the Fromm Music Foundation and in part by the Aaron Copland Fund for Music.
