2024 Janet & Arthur Ross Rome Prize Ceremony and Concert

Graphically designed element with two rows of wide, colorful letters spelling ROME as EROM and OMER; in the space of the letters are photos of pine tree bark, street paving stones, a murmuration of starlings, and a sheet of travertine

Please join us on Thursday, April 25, as we celebrate the 2024–25 Rome Prize winners and Italian Fellows at our annual Rome Prize Ceremony in New York. The event, titled “100 Years of Rhapsody in Blue and Music from the American Academy in Rome: The Janet and Arthur Ross Rome Prize Ceremony and Concert,” will take place in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Tickets are $40 (with a $9 fee) and can be purchased through carnegiehall.org, CarnegieCharge 212-247-7800, or at the box office, located at 57th Street and Seventh Avenue.

On April 21, 1924, George Gershwin made his Carnegie Hall debut with the premiere of Rhapsody in Blue at a fundraising concert to benefit the American Academy in Rome as a part of the Experiments in Modern Music series. One hundred years later we pay tribute to this event, and to the evolution of new music at the Academy, with an adventurous concert curated by 2010 Resident George Lewis. The event features works by Academy Fellows and a special version of Rhapsody in Blue, all performed by the International Contemporary Ensemble

This special evening, announcing our Rome Prize winners and showcasing the Academy’s remarkable impact on contemporary classical music in the United States, will help raise vital funds to continue the Academy’s essential work. Proceeds from the evening will support the Academy’s fellowships.
