Encounters II: The Activist Gesture
Please note that the physical exhibition was canceled, and its contents are presented in digital form.
An exhibition in two parts marking the 125th anniversary of the founding of the American Academy in Rome and tracing the impact of its unique, interdisciplinary working environment on American culture. Encounters investigates the enduring impact of the city of Rome as a dynamic creative laboratory through a series of interdisciplinary exchanges.
Encounters II pairs an architect and an artist, both of whom blur disciplinary distinctions, to explore abstraction and the “activist gesture” in works of art and public monuments addressing pressing social and political issues in the United States.
Curated by Peter Benson Miller.
