Katherine Jansen – The Jubilee, the Veil of Veronica, and Religious Devotion in Premodern Rome

This illustrated lecture by Katherine Jansen (1994 Fellow, 2014 Resident), professor of history at Catholic University of America and the editor of Speculum: A Journal of Medieval Studies, examines the critical role that the veil of Veronica—arguably the most important relic in the St. Peter’s Basilica—played in the foundation of the Roman Jubilee in 1300 by Pope Boniface VIII and in subsequent Holy Years throughout the fifteenth century.
The lecture will be held in English.
