Renaissance Society of America Annual Conference – The Court of the Lion: Performance and Classical Scholarship in the Curia of Leo X

Renaissance Society of America (RSA) Annual Conference

The American Academy in Rome is pleased to announce its panel sessions at the 2016 Renaissance Society of America (RSA) Annual Conference in Boston: "The Court of the Lion: Performance and Classical Scholarship in the Curia of Leo X", on Thursday, March 31.

This pair of panels explores ways in which members of the court of Pope Leo X (1513-1521) sought to present a vision of the papacy and the Curia to each other and to a broader Roman, Italian, or European audience. The first panel focuses on the ways in which scholars and bureaucrats used elements of the classical legacy to further their efforts at personal and institutional promotion, while the second investigates particular examples of performance (musical and print) for and by members of the Leonine court.
