On April 20, the American Academy in Rome hosted its annual Spring Gala—drawing a sold-out crowd from the art, architecture, and food worlds to a magical evening at the Four Seasons Restaurant. With a menu curated by the honoree, Alice Waters, and Chez Panisse’s long-time chef David Tanis, great food and wine provided by Marchese Antinori intersected with lively conversation around the importance and role of the arts and humanities in the world today. Honorees Anthony Grafton (2004 Resident), Tod Williams and Billie Tsien (1983 Fellow and 2000 Resident), and Alice Waters (founder of the Rome Sustainable Food Project) celebrated the impact of the American Academy on their lives and in the world. The event was cochaired by Trustee Cary J. Davis and Suzanne Deal Booth.
