Lei Liang, FAAR'12 wins 2012 Alpert/Ragdale Prize

Composer Lei Liang, FAAR'12 has won The Herb Alpert Foundation’s 2012 Alpert/Ragdale Music Composition Prize, a residency at Ragdale in Lake Forest, Illinois. He was Guest Composer at soundSCAPE festival in Maccagno, Italy in July, and will be Guest Composer at Japan’s premiere music school, Toho Gakuen, Tokyo, in September.

Anthony Sigel, FAAR'05, co-curated the upcoming exhibition Bernini: Sculpting in Clay which opens at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on October 3, 2012 and continues until January 6, 2013. The exhibit will then travel to the Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth, Texas where it will be on view from February 3 to April 14, 2013. The exhibition assembles 50 bozzetti and modelli and 30 of the artist’s drawings from collections around the world for the first time, and includes the unprecedented loan of 15 figures from the Harvard Art Museums.

Through technical study conducted by Sigel, combined with art historical and archival research by co-curators C. D. Dickerson III, Curator of European Art, Kimbell Art Museum, and Ian Wardropper, Director of the Frick Collection, the exhibition seeks a deeper understanding of who Bernini was as a sculptor. Sigel, Conservator of Objects and Sculpture, Straus Center for Conservation and Technical Studies, Harvard Art Museums, also cowrote the entries and contributed a visual glossary to the accompanying catalogue.
