Lauren Mackler – The Poet, the Critic, and the Missing

Lauren Mackler will present her work-in-progress for three exhibitions; one which is set to open in Los Angeles at the Museum of Contemporary Art, in March 2016, and two others, which she is proposing to different sites in Rome. Set respectively in a public collection, a private residence and a loaded political site, these projects are conceptually distinct and at different stages, yet share the common attributes of relating the space of the exhibition to the space of a page.

Each of these projects uses the idea of a “footnote” to situate contemporary artists’ and writers’ work within the chosen site, though, in this instance, the footnote is tangent, second narrative, a fugitive thought, and an oblique response.

Mackler is a Rome Prize Fellow in Design at the American Academy in Rome and the director and curator at Public Fiction in Los Angeles.
