War Game
The American Academy in Rome will host a screening of War Game (2024), a film directed by Tony Gerber and Jesse Moss that critically examines an American president’s authority to deploy the US military on domestic soil through a genre-defying narrative based on a role-play exercise involving former elected officials and senior military officers. Through this innovative storytelling, the film explores the complexities of conflict, strategy, and the potential risks of unrestrained executive power.
“The beauty of War Game is that it’s essentially an act of theater,” says Gerber, who has earned international recognition for capturing the essence of human narratives. “As theater, it generates catharsis. And catharsis is an emotion we are all in need of these days.”
Following the screening, Gerber will join the audience for a Q&A session, offering a unique opportunity to gain insight into his creative process and the broader context of the film.
This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, and registration is required.
For access to the Academy, guests will be asked to show a valid photo ID. Backpacks and luggage with dimensions larger than 40 x 35 x 15 cm (16 x 14 x 6 in.) are not permitted on the property.
