Tung-Hui Hu is our 2023 Rome Prize Fellow in Literature and an associate professor in the Department of English at the University of Michigan. In this video he describes the research he undertakes before writing his poetry. For his book in progress, Hu is looking into why humans have punished objects and animals as if they were people, literally putting them on trial for their perceived wrongdoings.
