Biography

Khaled Sabsabi’s process involves working across art mediums, geographical borders, and cultures to create immersive and engaging art experiences. He sees art as an effective tool to communicate with people, through a familiar language. Sabsabi makes work that questions the rationales and complexities of nationhood, identity, and change. His practice speaks to audiences in ways that interconnect the interrelatedness and cycles of daily life.

Sabsabi was awarded an Australia Council for the Arts CCD fellowship in 2001, a Helen Lempriere Travelling Art Scholarship in 2010, the sixtieth Blake Prize in 2011, an MCG Basil Sellers Fellowship in 2014, the Fishers Ghost Prize in 2014, a Western Sydney ARTS NSW Fellowship in 2015, and the Sharjah Art Programme Prize in 2016. He is represented by Milani Gallery in Brisbane and has fourteen works in private, national, and international collections. Sabsabi has also participated in the fifth Marrakech Biennale, the eighteenth Biennale of Sydney, the ninth Shanghai Biennale, Sharjah Biennial 11, the first Yinchuan Biennale, the third Kochi Muziris Biennale, the Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art 2018, and the twenty-first Biennale of Sydney.
