Project description

My photographic work has largely centered on how the past informs the present. Africans were part of ancient Europe which includes Italy. Scholars and historians (including Frank M. Snowden Jr. in Blacks in Antiquity) have explored this topic. He stated, “Africans who reached the shores of Greece and Italy constituted an important chapter in history of classical antiquity.” I would like to explore those places visually through self-portraiture and landscape photography. At locations such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, Palestrina, and others. Using archives and collections to pinpoint people and sites. As African immigrants continue to make their way to Europe, their presence is not new and goes back millennia.
