Overview
The American Academy in Rome holds or manages the copyright for most of the photographs in the Photographic Archive; reproductions from the DHC are freely available with a Creative Commons license Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).
Copyright Undetermined: For items whose copyrights are not owned by the American Academy in Rome, it is the applicant’s responsibility to determine whether such rights exist and obtain any necessary permissions for use.
The Photographic Archive makes available free of charge images and digital objects to which the Academy holds the rights to scholars, educators, and general public.

The applicant agrees that the permission will be subject to the following conditions:
1. Unless otherwise stated, the applicant must use the following credit line in display and/or publication:
American Academy in Rome, Photographic Archive
or American Academy in Rome, Fototeca Unione
When appropriate, include the name of the artist, photographer, or author.
2. Applicants may not use reproductions in subsequent editions or any other form of publication without submitting and approving a new application.
3. The applicant agrees to provide the Photographic Archive and Fototeca Unione of the American Academy in Rome with a copy of the publication (if applicable) in which the materials appear.
