Distinguished art historian Brian Curran died on July 11, 2017 in State College, Pennsylvania. He was 64.
He was diagnosed with ALS in 2014. His many friends and colleagues in the Academy family supported him throughout his illness and will miss him very much. obituary
He was a full professor at the University of Pennsylvania specializing in Italian Renaissance art. His book, The Egyptian Renaissance: The Afterlife of Ancient Egypt in Early Modern Italy, was published by the University of Chicago Press in 2007. He co-authored Obelisk: A History with Anthony Grafton, RAAR 2004, Pamela O. Long, FAAR 2004, and Benjamin Weiss. He also served as editor of the Memoirs of the American Academy in Rome.
A memorial service is planned for September 9, 1017 at 3pm at the Hintz Family Alumni Center at Penn State University. map
