Lysley Tenorio – Other Disturbing Realities: Fact into Fiction

The making of one of the worst movies ever produced. An attack on the Beatles at the Manila International Airport. A shopping mall that bans "poor people and other disturbing realities." Lysley Tenorio will discuss how these strange-but-true events become subject matter for his fiction, determining narrative limitations and possibilities in terms of plot and structure, character, and language, as well as exploring further a recurring theme in his work—the cultural, historical, and artistic intersections between America and the Philippines.

Tenorio is the recipient of the Joseph Brodsky Rome Prize, a gift of the Drue Heinz Trust/American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is a professor of English at Saint Mary's College of California.
