Natasha Trethewey: Poems for Rome
A reading of poems selected from Thrall and Monument
Natasha Trethewey, twice the United States Poet Laureate and winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, will read a selection of poems that she has chosen for their special resonance in Rome. The poems—many inspired by paintings and speaking to matters of body, identity, presence, and memory—have been newly translated into Italian for this occasion by Alessandro Giammei, to be read by the poet Silvia Bre.
These readings also celebrate the first Italian edition of Trethewey’s poetry, presented by Franco Esposito and the editorial house FuoriLinea. Her earliest collection, Domestic Work, will be published this summer.
Natasha Trethewey is the American Academy’s 2022 William B. Hart Poet in Residence. The event will be hosted by Maria Ida Gaeta, Secretary General of the Committee for the Celebrations of the Centenary of the Death of Dante Alighieri, and Elizabeth Rodini, the Academy’s interim Director.
This event will not be streamed.
