Open Studios 2025

The American Academy in Rome invites the public to experience the work of its Rome Prize and Italian Fellows during Summer Open Studios. This special event offers a rare opportunity to step inside the studios and shared spaces of the McKim, Mead & White Building, where Fellows have been developing their research over the past year.
These practices span a wide range—from the different effects of climate change to the ravaging effects of wildfires to intimate explorations of fertility, and from communities of Roman makers to a vibrant chorus of writers and readers. Projects rethink playgrounds and reimagine Rome’s urban fabric through photography; they map the Roman Forum and consistently survey Renaissance book bindings. Artists create new landscapes in this given setting and use spices, plants, and bodies into spaces and canvases; they revive old printing techniques while intervening conceptually throughout the spaces of the American Academy.
Open to the public and shared globally through the Academy’s social media channels, the event marks the culmination of a dynamic year of creativity and exchange. It is both a celebration of artistic accomplishment and a window into the vibrant community fostered by the Academy’s 2024–25 Rome Prize winners and Italian Fellows.
