Rome Prize Information Session: Philadelphia

Please join us on Tuesday, September 24 at 6:00pm ET for an in-person Rome Prize Information Session in Philadelphia, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania’s Stuart Weitzman School of Design. All prospective Rome Prize applicants in the Philadelphia metro area and beyond are welcome. (This event is not limited to faculty or students at the University of Pennsylvania.)

The information session is free and open, but we request that you please register in advance. You will receive an email confirmation.

The program will include a presentation about the Rome Prize by three winners: Kate Meng Brassel (2024 Fellow), assistant professor in the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Pennsylvania; Frederick Steiner (1998 Fellow, 2014 Resident), Paley Professor and dean of the Weitzman School of Design; and Kimberly Bowes (2006 Fellow), professor of classical studies at Penn, who also served as AAR Director from 2014 to 2017 and as Andrew W. Mellon Professor-in-Charge of the School of Classical Studies from 2012 to 2014. An extended Q&A will follow.

The final deadline to apply for the Rome Prize for the 2025–26 academic year is November 15, 2024. This event offers the opportunity to get your questions answered before the deadline.

Rome Prize Fellowships are available in ancient studies, architecture, design, historic preservation and conservation, landscape architecture, literature, medieval studies, modern Italian studies, musical composition, Renaissance and early modern studies, and visual arts. The Tsao Family Rome Prize will also be awarded to a humanities scholar whose project explores the relationship between Chinese and Mediterranean philosophical traditions.

Rome Prize Fellowships include a stipend, room and board, and an individual workspace at AAR’s eleven-acre campus in Rome.
