Biography

Glenn LaRue Smith is a landscape architect whose work centers on cultural landscapes, urban design, and the spatial histories of African American communities. He is the founding principal of PUSH studio, a landscape architecture and urban design firm based in Washington, DC, and helped to establish the Black Landscape Architects Network (BlackLAN), an organization that promotes visibility, mentorship, and community among Black practitioners in the field. Smith’s projects often address issues of equity, identity, and memory in the built environment. 

Over the course of his career, Smith has led a range of projects, from urban waterfronts to memorials and campus plans, with a consistent focus on public space and community engagement. He has held academic positions at institutions including Florida A&M University and served as a design juror and advisor for national organizations and competitions. Smith holds a BLA from Mississippi State University and an MLA from the University of Michigan. He is a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
