Magdalene in Penitence will be a three-channel video art installation incorporating Catholic iconography, Marxist aesthetics, and homosexual eroticism. It will be a confessional altarpiece, a method-acted Neorealist movie, and a gay love story. Inspired by Catholic devotional painting and Neorealist filmmaking, I will document three men who bare their own memories and musings of religious ecstasy and sexual devotion, and then direct them to reenact each other’s stories and share love scenes. This exchange will blur the distinction between documentary and fiction, and also the boundaries between the characters themselves.
