Selected works by 120+ Academy writers
The Fellowship in Literature was a late-comer to the Academy. In the early 1950s the American Academy of Arts and Letters approached the Academy about sponsoring a fellowship. Poet and translator Anthony Hecht, FAAR 1952, RAAR 1969, was chosen the first Fellow (Jack Kerouac was considered). Earlier this year we began an alphabetical listing of each Fellow, Affiliated Fellow, and Resident in Literature with a suggested work to sample. Beginning with poet Tom Andrews, FAAR 2000, and ending with poet Miller Williams, FAAR 1977, the list includes poets, novelists, writers of non-fiction, playwrights, and translators. This month we have reached the end of the alphabet. The selected works include famous novels, colllected poems, works set in and around the Academy, long-running plays, and Pulitzer Prize winners. Do read a few, or a lot.
