Federica Nicolardi’s project focuses on three papyri from the Villa dei Papiri at Herculaneum that provide new information about the Epicurean philosopher and mathematician Philonides from Laodiceia-on-sea and his relations with the Seleucid court and other senior figures of Hellenistic philosophy. The papyri shed light on lesser-known aspects of Greek scholarship in the second century BC. The aim is to write a commentary on the text and a historical introduction to the edition of the work that will be useful to specialists and accessible nonspecialists.
