Pretty Raw: After and Around Helen Frankenthaler
Pretty Raw, organized by Katy Siegel, the Rose Art Museum’s Curator-at-Large, surveys art made from 1950 to the present beginning with Helen Frankenthaler. Siegel asks, “How might it change our vision of the history of postwar American art to start with a female artist? How might it look seen through the lens of Helen Frankenthaler, whose paintings and image in the popular media take in so many of the questions modernism has suppressed?” Academy Artists in the exhibition include Polly Apfelbaum, FAAR 2013, Jackie Saccaccio, FAAR 2005, and Christopher Wool, FAAR 1990.

Inaugural business meeting of AAR as Affiliated Society of CAA
This year, the American Academy in Rome has become an official Affiliated Society of the College Art Association. The Academy has long been a leading center of new research and creativity in the visual arts and art history. Now, we have the opportunity to share, discuss, and debate our work with the extended Academy community and other scholars and artists in the United States.
To brainstorm ideas about how best to organize the Academy's presence at CAA Annual Conferences moving forward, we would like to invite you to attend the Academy's inaugural business meeting at the upcoming CAA conference in New York.
Mark Robbins (FAAR '97), President of the American Academy in Rome, Lindsay Harris (FAAR '14), Andrew W. Mellon Professor-in-Charge, and Patricia Cronin (FAAR ‘07), President of the Society of Fellows will facilitate the meeting and present an update of ongoing events and initiatives at the Academy.

Talk by Kyle Reynolds, Thomas Kelley, FAAR 2014, and Carrie Norman
Kelley, Norman, and Reynolds will discuss their design practices and recent projects. Thomas Kelley and Carrie Norman are co-founders of the Chicago and New York-based architecture collaborative Norman Kelley, whose works are featured in Treatise: Why Write Alone?, the current exhibition and publication project of the Graham Foundation. The exhibition continues until 28 March.
The firm’s work has been published and exhibited widely, most recently in Log 31: New Ancients and the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale. They are the recipients of the 2014 Architecture League of New York Young Architect’s Prize. Their design work is currently represented by Volume Gallery in Chicago.
