Rome Prize Information Session: Online

Graphically designed element with two rows of wide, colorful letters spelling ROME as EROM and OMER; in the space of the letters are photos of pine tree bark, street paving stones, a murmuration of starlings, and a sheet of travertine

Please join us on Wednesday, October 18, for an online Rome Prize Information Session, taking place on Zoom. All prospective Rome Prize applicants are welcome.

The information session, starting at 5:00pm ET, is free and open, but we request that you please register in advance.

For this event, AAR President Peter N. Miller will present an overview of the Academy. Next, Shawn Miller, AAR’s program director, will lead a discussion about the fellowship with two Rome Prize winners: Marina Rustow (2007 Fellow), the Khedouri A. Zilkha Professor of Jewish Civilization in the Near East at Princeton University; and Sarah McPhee (1992 Fellow), the Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Art History at Emory University. An extended Q&A will follow.

The final deadline to apply for the Rome Prize for the 2024–25 academic year is November 15, 2023. This event offers the opportunity to get your questions answered before the deadline.

Rome Prize Fellowships are available in ancient studies, architecture, design, historic preservation and conservation, landscape architecture, literature, medieval studies, modern Italian studies, musical composition, Renaissance and early modern studies, and visual arts. The Tsao Family Rome Prize will also be awarded to a humanities scholar whose project explores the relationship between Chinese and Mediterranean philosophical traditions.

Rome Prize Fellowships include a stipend, room and board, and an individual workspace at AAR’s eleven-acre campus in Rome.
